Beauty and the Beach
Stay beach-beautiful with sun-kissed skin and shimmering metallic shades this summer
This season make-up and nails are ore-inspired with metallics accenting eyes, cheeks and lips to offset a summer tan. Referenced at many major shows from Giorgio Armani to Lanvin, golden hues and glowing skin were pre-requisites for summer runway beauty. Choose multi-tasking, longwearing and protective products to translate this look from high fashion to holiday.
Start by sun-proofing your skin with an SPF of at least 30 – protecting against sun burn and premature ageing is as simple as applying a lightweight layer underneath make-up and all over the body. Kiehls UV Protect Face and Body Lotion can be used for both areas and is water-resistant as well as conditioning.
The focus is firmly on the features for summer make-up – sculpted cheekbones and fresh flawless skin will help to emphasise eyes and lips. Prepare your base by using Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua – ultra light and skin perfecting; this water-based oil-free formula gives good coverage and a satin finish with an added SPF. Fake it before you make it with a bronze glow – Lancôme’s Flash Bronzer is an easy to apply face gel that gives a natural looking tan in under an hour. Finish with Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick, award-winning five bar blocks of colour that can be blended together or used separately as blush, highlighters or eye-shadow. Use the original Bronze brick for a deep tan tone or Nectar if you prefer soft peachy and coral colours on your cheeks.
An element of reflection and shine updates eye make-up for this season. Creamy metallic colours look beautiful for the beach and beyond and are easy to apply. A primer will ensure crease-proof colour – Nars Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base holds up in the heat and enhances eye shadow colour for a long lasting look. Ensure eyelids are cleansed and apply all over with fingertips before adding colour in Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream shadows in warm shimmering brown Beach Bronze and highlighting the brow bone, inside corner of the eye and under the eye with pale gold Candlelight. Finish by waterproofing lashes with Bobbi Brown No Smudge Mascara.
Enhance your pout with a pop of colour. New Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain in number 18 by YSL is a flattering pink shade that promises and delivers a long-lasting stain formula with super glossy shine. Finally, get the metallic look nailed with Orly Foil FX - high shine texturized polish in Rage is the perfect mani-pedi shade for looking pretty poolside wherever your destination. ______________________________________________________

Subcultural accessories look set to be a seasonal beauty must-have for AW12, with Givenchy's gothic couture show, menswear and upcoming editorial advertising featuring fierce looking septum rings.
Inspired by mythological creatures, Creative Director and Designer Ricardo Tisci contrasted elegant high fashion with edgy facial piercings - faux of course. Choose from Swarovski crystal-embellished nose rings, flesh tunnels or oversized earrings for catwalk style without the commitment.
Behind the Scenes - Givenchy AW12
It's survival of the fittest in the most anticipated season of the year. From fun festivals to more formal occasions these beauty essentials are all you'll need in your arsenal.
Tribal trends aren't just on the catwalk - this bright beauty bag by Marc by Marc Jacobs looks hot and is perfectly sized to keep the following must-haves to hand.
Sun protection is essential - mist on Dermalogica Waterblock Solar Spray, a lightweight and waterproof alternative to cream with SPF30.
Keep hair hydrated with multi-award winning Moroccan Oil before styling with L'Oreal Super Dust - sprinkle at roots for amazing uplift and any oil absorption.
For face get creative with colourful lips - choose from glitter, metallic or leopard print in Violent Lips Tattoos to minimise make-up touch ups and leave a lasting impression. False lashes mean a full and flirty look without the messiness of mascara - try Shu Uemura 'Luxe' eyelashes for effective volume and length.
Eye make-up will stay on from dusk until dawn with Nars Smudgeproof Eye Primer - smooth a small amount from lashes to the crease of the lids for more vibrant and non-moving colour. MAC's Sized to Go collection includes cult beauty favourite Strobe Cream in a travel-sized container - use to highlight on cheek or brow bones, or mix with your make-up base for a glowing complexion.
Refresh and re-hydrate skin with Caudalie Beauty Elixir - this hero product will fix your make-up and add radiance whilst helping you keep your cool. For quick fix cleansing try Korres Pomegranate wipes - now available as part of a limited edition festival kit with Guava body products and Lip Butter stick.
Finally, don't forget one of the most important fashion accessories this summer - an eye-catching manicure. Orly's Electronica range features shimmering metallic 'Syncro,' a two-tone chrome effect polish inspired by 80's pop style.

Fashion and beauty's favourite artist Lady Gaga will launch her debut foray into fragrance with an eau de parfum this September.
Entitled, 'Fame' the fragrance is billed as being the first ever black perfume - the colour disappears once sprayed. Encased in a gold spiked bottle, the deliciously dark and decadent notes include, "Tears of Belladonna, Crushed Heart of Tiger Orchidea with a Black Veil of Incense, Pulverized Apricot and the combination essences of Saffron and Honey Drops." The perfect perfume for 'little monsters' everywhere!

Let lips do the talking with one of summer's biggest beauty trends - a strikingly bright pout. Neon shades were seen on runway shows from Prabal Gurung to Vivienne Westwood, balanced against beautifully natural skin.
Looking for the perfect products to create the look? Try MAC Pigments - vibrant powders which can be mixed or applied over the top of lipsticks, primers or gloss for a pop of colour. Whatever your tonal preference Magenta, Red Electric and Neo-Orange (used in the article) are all suitable for this season.
